The rescuers carefully placed him into a carrier and began transporting him out of the wilderness.
At first, they assumed he was suffering from exposure and dehydration.
Then he started shouting.
” Giant centipedes!”
The man reportedly screamed the phrase repeatedly.
The rescuers looked at one another in confusion.
“What do you mean?”
According to the story, the man insisted there were enormous centipedes living in the forest.
Creatures far larger than anything that should exist.
The more he spoke, the more distressed he became.
Eventually the rescuers stopped questioning him.
They assumed his condition was affecting his judgment.
After all, people lost in wilderness environments often experience confusion.
Hallucinations aren’t unheard of.
Yet the story continued spreading long after the rescue ended.
Some people dismissed the entire account.
Others pointed out that dense forests conceal countless unknown things.
And in regions as isolated as parts of the Pacific Northwest, strange stories often survive for decades.
Whether the man truly saw anything remains unknown.
But according to the legend, his story was not the strangest thing reported in those forests.
Because other visitors claimed to encounter something far more bizarre.
A staircase.
