Part 2 — The Woman Who Claimed Aliens Warned Her
Although theories about hidden planets existed long before the internet, the modern Nibiru conspiracy exploded during the 1990s because of one woman:
Nancy Lieder.
According to her claims, extraterrestrials had chosen her to warn humanity about an approaching planetary disaster connected to Nibiru.

Lieder claimed she communicated telepathically with beings from Zeta Reticuli — a star system frequently associated with UFO lore and stories involving “Grey aliens.”

According to her story, these extraterrestrials warned that Nibiru was approaching Earth and would eventually trigger worldwide destruction.
She described the beings as hairless grey humanoids with large black eyes, matching the classic alien imagery already popular in paranormal culture.
As her claims spread online, the conspiracy rapidly expanded.
Forums, websites, and early internet communities began connecting the Nibiru theory to:
- UFO sightings,
- government cover-ups,
- secret underground bunkers,
- hidden astronomical data,
- and end-of-the-world prophecies.
Some believers claimed world governments already knew about Nibiru but were deliberately hiding evidence to prevent public panic.
Others insisted strange weather events and unusual astronomical phenomena were signs the planet was already affecting Earth from a distance.
The theory became especially popular leading up to 2012, when many people incorrectly linked it to fears surrounding the Mayan calendar.
Even after predicted disaster dates repeatedly passed without incident, the conspiracy survived by constantly adapting and shifting timelines.
And somehow, despite the failed predictions, the story only became more famous online.
Because for many people, the idea of a hidden planet tied to aliens and ancient warnings simply feels too fascinating to disappear completely.
