Part 5 — The Smile at the Window
Several nights after the attack, the woods became quiet again.
No footsteps.
No banging.
No strange noises.
According to the story, the silence was almost worse.
Because she constantly expected something to happen.
Then one night she woke suddenly from sleep.
No loud crash had awakened her.
No scream.
No sound at all.
Just a feeling.
A powerful feeling that someone was standing outside her bedroom window.
The room was completely dark.
At first she could only make out a shape beyond the glass.
A massive silhouette standing motionless outside.
Watching.
According to the story, the figure seemed much larger than a normal person.
Frozen with fear, she slowly reached toward the flashlight she kept beside the bed.
Every instinct told her not to look.
But she needed to know what was outside.
Her hand found the flashlight.
She switched it on.
The beam struck the window.
And according to the story, it illuminated the face of an enormous hairy creature staring directly back at her.
Those who tell the story believe it was Bigfoot.
The creature reportedly had broad features, deep-set eyes, and a face that appeared strangely human.
For several seconds neither moved.
Then came the detail that transformed the encounter into legend.
The creature smiled.
Not aggressively.
Not angrily.
Almost knowingly.
As though it understood her fear.
As though it had been watching her for far longer than she realized.
Moments later it turned and disappeared into the woods.
The woman eventually moved away.
The sightings stopped.
The sounds stopped.
And life slowly returned to normal.
But according to the story, one memory never faded.
Not the footprints.
Not the attack.
Not even the creature itself.
It was the smile.
Because years later, she still wondered whether the thing outside the window had simply been observing her…
