Part 2 — The Ranger’s Warning

(Part 1) ➡️ https://storiesworld.us/archives/9378

The hiker arrived early that morning.

The weather was clear.

The trail wasn’t crowded.

Everything seemed completely normal.

According to the story, he checked in near the trailhead and began preparing for the hike.

His sleeping bag was rolled tightly behind his backpack.

Nothing unusual.

Nothing suspicious.

Just standard gear.

Then a park ranger approached him.

The ranger glanced at the sleeping bag and asked:

“You’re not planning on camping out there tonight, are you?”

The hiker laughed.

“No. I just bring it in case something happens and I end up staying out later than expected.”

The ranger didn’t laugh back.

According to the story, his expression immediately changed.

Then he replied:

“I’d highly advise against that.”

The hiker assumed he meant wildlife.

Weather.

Maybe park regulations.

But the ranger continued.

“First, it’s illegal.”

Then after a pause:

“And second… you don’t want to stay out there tonight.”

The wording immediately caught the hiker’s attention.

Not you shouldn’t.

Not you’re not allowed.

You don’t want to.

The ranger appeared uncomfortable.

Almost nervous.

As though he wanted to explain more but couldn’t.

According to the story, he eventually stopped speaking and simply repeated his warning.

Whatever was bothering the ranger, he clearly believed it was serious.

The hiker thanked him and continued toward the trail.

Throughout the day, however, the conversation stayed in the back of his mind.

Especially because the deeper he went into the mountains, the stranger the forest began to feel.
